The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources join the People of Dagbon to participate in the Green Ghana Project.

On Friday, 7th June, His Royal Highness, Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II, together with Dr. Akwasi Konadu, Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources responsible for Lands and Forestry and his entourage met to plant trees during the tree planting exercise tagged Green Ghana.

Ya-Na Abukari II gave his applause to the government on the Green Ghana Project which is helping to replace lost trees in the vegetation and also admonished fellow countrymen to care for the seedlings to enhance germination and planting. Moreover, he stressed on his advice to youngsters about illegal tree-logging and irresponsible bush burning that affects vegetation growth.

“It’s such a shame to see our landscape from the windows of aircrafts, looking down to see my beloved land being wasted away and its negative implications on the output of our farmers and our possible inabilities to feed our families in the future”.

Moving on, the Overlord of Dagbon went ahead to assure the Ministarial officers that him and his community will wholeheartedly practice the commendable tree planting initiative and give their best to support and ensure continuity of the exercise.

The Deputy for Lands and Natural Resources, Dr. Konadu also added his voice at the gathering at Gbewa Palace on the Event as he expressed gratitude to the Overload and people of Dagbon for their keen interest and support of the initiative.

He proceeded on his talk by restating to the gathering the aims of the project when he stressed on its ability to intensify afforestation and reforestation of Ghana’s degraded landscapes and hence, a must for all Ghanaians to put themselves together to help the betterment and continuity of the Green Ghana Initiative so as to prevent or decrease the effects of climate change and preserve the environment.

“Growing for a Greener Tomorrow” is the theme for this year’sGreen Ghana Project. The deputy minister provided an insight to the theme by explaining that its targeted at growing plants for a sustainable environmental conservation for future goodness and support human survival. He ended by admonishing all persons to take genuine interest in the project and help secure a greener Ghana in the near future.
