The Member of Parliament representing the Assin Central Constituency and a prominent candidate in the NPP flagbearership race, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has urged his followers to throw their support behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as they head into the general election on December 7th. Kennedy Agyapong acknowledged the concerns of his supporters, expressing remorse for not giving them prior notice of his decision to join Dr. Bawumia’s campaign in Kumasi.
“It didn’t go well with some of you, and I want to apologise for not informing you before I went on the campaign tour,” Honorable Agyapong wrote on X on Tuesday.
He affirmed his unwavering dedication to the NPP, speaking against any speculation of stepping down or pursuing an independent candidacy. Furthermore, Mr. Agyapong emphasized the importance of unity within the NPP now that everything has come to an end with the presidential primaries.
“As long as I am a member of the party, irrespective of what happened in the presidential primaries, I believe it is best for all of us to come together and rally support behind the party. I urge my supporters to use the occasion of my birthday to reconcile.
“I also appeal to the supporters of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to reciprocate the same goodwill I am extending on behalf of my supporters. I plead with both sides to unite and rally behind Dr. Bawumia and the NPP,” he added.
Addressing traders at the bustling Kejetia Market in Kumasi, Mr. Agyapong urged the residents of the Ashanti Region to pledge their support for Dr. Bawumia, underscoring the NPP’s unwavering dedication to Ghana’s progress.
Furthermore, Mr. Agyapong refuted the claim that the ruling party has become disconnected from the inhabitants of the Ashanti region, traditionally seen as the party’s stronghold.
He highlighted the warm reception that the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, received during his recent visit to the region as proof of the party’s enduring popularity.
“As a businessman and politician, I understand both politics and business. I acknowledge the current hardships, but when you vote, remember that the NDC is not a viable option—they are very dangerous.
“Be cautious. Under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government, we’ve covered fees under Free SHS and even provided uniforms for your children.He described the NDC as “very dangerous.”
