A total of 12,720 recently certified teachers from diverse institutions of higher education have triumphantly passed their licensing examinations in order to be assigned to their preferred regions. This figure represents a fraction of the over 20,000 applications submitted by qualified teachers, making them the first batch to begin this initiative.
These qualifued teachers are now able to take advantage of a self-placement mechanism, a program implemented by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to facilitate their placement in various regions of Ghana.
The self-posting module enables educators to access the GES Service portal in order to procure their official appointment letters for deployment. This process is scheduled to occur between July 5 and July 31, 2024.
At a press briefing conducted at the Ghana Education Service headquarters in Accra on July 5th, Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director-General of GES, explained, “this self-placement system seeks to address multiple challenges involving language barriers, accommodation and other related issues that affect them in their line of duty when posted.“
He further stated “The module is for only basic to Junior high schools and as such, only qualified teachers who pass their licensure exams can be beneficiaries”.
Quizzed if the system may face challenges along the line, the GES Director-General replied, “plans have been advanced on alternative ways to manage and sustain the system “.
