The Electoral Commission’s former chairperson, Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei has been enstooled as Safohenaa of Nkum Asafo Group Number 4. She shared some pictures of her joyous moments with her followers on Facebook in a post she captioned “Safohen Nana Ama Kesson #nkumasafo #4.” On Saturday June 8.

In the post, the picture she shared show her happy self dressed in a beautiful kente cloth coupled with some gold ornaments and holding a fly whip to signify her authority and leadership as a Queen Mother. In a separate post, she expressed joy and anticipation for the impending Fetu Afahye which is scheduled September 1 to 7, 2024.

The Fetu Afahye is a grand annual festival celebrated by the people and chiefs of Cape Coast Traditional Area and it environs. The festival preparations begin with the pouring in of visitors who have come from different parts of the country to celebrate the festival with the natives of the Oguaa state. The celebration of the festival begins officially on the first Saturday of September.

Before the grand celebration, the Omanhen (chief) undergoes a period of confinement lasting a week. During this time, he engages in deep reflection and seeks divine wisdom from the creator (Aboadze) and the ancestors. He also receives medical care from his personal physician to ensure his physical and mental well-being for the forthcoming activities.

Upon the conclusion of the Omanhen’s confinement, he emerges in a grand and dignified manner, proceeding to the stool house to perform a libation ceremony, invoking blessings from the 77 deities of the Oguaa state, believed to govern the affairs of the Oguaa Traditional Area.

Charlotte Osei known traditionally as Nana Ama Kessen, intends to inform her followers that this year’s Fetu Afahye will not pass by her door now that she is Queen as expresses her joyful anticipation for the festival in her Facebook Post.
