Dormaa Senior High School is poised to make a remarkable appearance on the national stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz following a ten-year absence. Dormaa SHS obtained the final spot for the region by surpassing Sacred Heart, Nsawkaw SHS, and Goka SHTS.
The school took the lead in the initial round of the competition and maintained their winning stance to finish with a total score of 32 points. The last time Dormaa SHS qualified for the national championship was in 2014 exactly 10 years.
Their excited upon emerging victorious in the competition was also shared by the students of Wenchi Methodist SHS. After six consecutive years of being excluded, Wenchi Methodist SHS is set to make a triumphant return in the 2024 edition.
The school outperformed their Wesleyan counterparts, Berekum Methodist SHTS, Jinijini SHS, and Sumaman SHS to secure a spot in the national championship.
Despite the high expectations for Methodist SHTS, Berekum, the “Asomafo” from Wenchi surprised everyone by winning with incredibly high scores. The school amassed 41 points at the conclusion of the competition, surpassing their closest rival, Sumaman SHS, who scored 23 points. Methodist SHS, Berekum, and Jinijini SHS trailed behind with 11 points each.
Contestants, students, and educators of the school are determined to excel at the national championship. The school, alongside four others, will represent the Bono region in this year’s competition. The other schools are Notre Dame Girls SHS, Sunyani SHS, and Nafana Presby SHS.
The young women from Fiapre demonstrated resilience in overcoming their initial challenges. After finishing third in three rounds of the competition, they managed to turn the tables in the final round, obtaining victory over their opponent, Berekum SHS.
Sunyani SHS showcased their superiority over their rivals, obtaining victory by an impressive margin of 64 points, more than 40 points ahead of their competitors. They competed against Odomaseman SHS, Our Lady of Providence SHS, and Mansen SHS.
To conclude the qualifiers on the first day of the competition, Nafana Presbyterian SHS once again secured a spot in the national championship. Making the journey from Sampa to the Bono regional capital, the young men emerged victorious after outperforming their Presbyterian counterparts from Berekum, Koase SHTS, and Twene Amanfo SHTS.
