The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) responded to allegations of theft from unattended luggage at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The article depicted a scene of numerous discontented individuals at the KIA baggage complaints office, articulating their exasperation over missing items from their luggage.
The publication urged the GACL to implement rigorous access controls to prevent unauthorized entry into areas where passenger luggage is stored.
In reply, the GACL management issued a statement on Sunday, June 16, stating that they have “taken note of the concerns raised in the publication and is taking the needed steps to immediately investigate and address it.”
“Furthermore, plans are already in motion to restrict access to non-travellers and unauthorized personnel at security zones, such as baggage hold areas.”
The statement emphasized that individuals convicted of theft or extortion, behaviors that negatively impact passengers’ experiences and damage GACL’s reputation, would be subject to stringent legal repercussions.
“Management wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to ensure that operations at the airport are safe and secure for our travellers,” the statement affirmed.
