Hollywood couple Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors have taken a deeply symbolic step across the Atlantic, recently being granted citizenship of Guinea after discovering ancestral ties to the West African nation through DNA testing and travel to the country.
In a private cultural ceremony organised by Guinea’s Ministry of Culture at the Gbassi Kolo tourist and cultural centre, officials presented the couple with passports and welcomed them with traditional music and dance that celebrated their heritage.
Djiba Diakité, Guinea’s minister and chief of staff to the president, articulated the significance of the moment to the newly minted citizens: “We both believe that you are among the worthy sons and daughters of Guinea to represent our country and the red and green flag throughout the world.”
For Meagan Good, best known for roles in films like “Think Like a Man”, this visit marked her first to Guinea. Reflecting on their future there, the couple shared: “We could absolutely see ourselves having a home here and spending meaningful time in Guinea. This is not a fleeting connection, it’s something we see as long-term and evolving.”
Good and Majors, who began dating in 2023 and married last year, see this new citizenship as more than a title, it’s a bridge between their public lives and their ancestral story, joining a broader movement of African-Americans reconnecting with African heritage.
