Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has sounded a strong warning to delegates and party members ahead of the NPP’s internal election slated for January 31, 2026, which will determine its 2028 presidential candidate.
Speaking to a gathering of the party’s faithful members, Agyapong raised concerns fueled by intelligence reports suggesting that some individuals could disrupt the voting process through tactics of intimidation or violence. The former Assin Central lawmaker made it clear that such behaviour would not be tolerated, stressing the need for vigilance and firm action if necessary.
“They cannot intimidate anyone with threats of violence,” Agyapong insisted, challenging delegates to remain aware and responsive to any signs of disorder during the run-up to the election.
Beyond urging caution to prevent physical threats, he also called on his fellow aspirants to step forward and report any suspicious activity they might be aware of to the appropriate authorities. According to Agyapong, staying silent in the face of potential threats could erode confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes and fuel dangerous tensions.
He underscored that safeguarding the integrity of the NPP’s election is not just about preventing chaos, but ensuring that every member feels secure and empowered to exercise their democratic right without fear. For Agyapong, the upcoming vote represents not just a contest of personalities but a test of the party’s commitment to credible and peaceful competition.
