Despite his young age, Gavrić pleaded with the soldiers to let him join them. The soldiers were initially hesitant but were eventually persuaded by his determination. Gavrić was assigned to the 5th Infantry Regiment and given the rank of private.

Following his military service, Gavrić learned graphic design and obtained his driver’s license. He married his wife, Kosara, and had one son. Gavrić passed away in 1993 at the age of 86.
