Professor Francis Nkrumah, eldest son of Kwame Nkrumah passes on yesterday, 30th June.

 

Professor Francis Nkrumah, the eldest child of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has departed to the land of the unknown. The precise cause of his passing remains undisclosed.

However, Indian author and editor Vijay Prashad confirmed his demise in a social media post on X, dated Sunday, June 30, 2024.

At the time of his demise, he had reached the age of 89. The deceased Emeritus Professor held the distinguished title of the longest-serving Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR). Sharing a touching moment, his brother Sekou Nkrumah posted a photograph with the departed individual on Facebook.

Despite the absence of a caption, the photograph attracted messages of goodwill and sympathy from several social media users.

He was recognized for his contributions to the eradication of poliomyelitis in Africa, as well as for his founding membership in the Pediatric Association of Ghana and the West African College of Physicians.In October 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) Africa Region awarded him for his exceptional and dedicated efforts in poliomyelitis eradication campaigns across Africa.
