The government’s initiative of the One Teacher One Laptop program is still providing advantages to teachers in public schools within the Greater Accra Region.
Most recently, 600 teachers from the Ada East and West District Directorates of the Ghana Education Service (GES) were the recipients of laptops. In Ada Foah, located in the Ada East District, teachers eagerly completed the requisite administrative procedures, which included presenting their Ghana Cards and providing signatures, in order to obtain their laptops.
The teachers were overjoyed upon receiving their new computer devices. Similarly, in the Ada West District, qualified teachers congregated at the District Office in Sege for the distribution process. Nearly all of the eligible teachers were able to collect their laptops during this distribution event.
District Director of Education, Stephen Arthur, conveyed his appreciation to the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ministry of Education, and the teacher unions for undertaking this initiative. He underscored the significance of laptops and internet connectivity in empowering Ghanaian educators to engage in the global community.Mr. Arthur expressed optimism that the devices would be utilized efficiently for the advantage of both teachers and students.
The ongoing distribution is a component of a nationwide endeavor to ensure that all teachers in public schools benefit from the program.
The One Teacher One Laptop project was inaugurated by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in September 2021 to enhance educational delivery through information technology and enhance teaching and learning outcomes in pre-tertiary educational institutions across the country.
Within the framework of the initiative, each public school teacher, ranging from kindergarten to senior high school, is slated to receive a laptop to facilitate lesson planning, research, and education. The government subsidizes 70% of the laptop’s cost, while teachers are responsible for the remaining 30%.
