The Electoral Commission of Ghana has revealed that the special application for voting has been opened for all qualified persons.
As Ghana is set to vote in the upcoming general elections to choose their leader , the electoral commission is also putting measures in place to see the smooth and fair process of this activity.
With this , the Chairperson for the electoral commission of Ghana , Jean Mensah has announced that a special voting application has been opened for Institutions and organizations who cannot be at the 7th December voting exercise.
The application closes on the 1st of July and those who applied will be voting on the 2nd of December. However , she explains that , the special voting is not automatic and that qualified persons should apply in order to vote.
An organization can send a list of it eligible voters who are willing to vote , with their names and voters ID to the returning officer of that constituency.
Applicants who are qualified for this special voting are Health Workers , Police Personnel , Military Personnel , Immigration Personnel , Custom Officers , Fire Service Workers , Prison Officers , Polling Officers , Permanent Workers of the EC and the Media. As they may not be able to be at their polling station on the day of election because of the duties they perform towards the nation.
Jean Adukwei Mensa makes it clear that the special voting will be done in all 276 constituencies across the country . As this is what the laws of the land says , so no constituency’s right to vote will be infringed on.
” Special voting is guaranteed under Regulation 3(1) of the Constitution Instrument(CI)127.
She further tells that the names of the special voters will be removed from the regular voting list on the 7th of December to prevent double voting.
