In a move delightfully blending life and art, Madam Secretary alums Tim Daly and Téa Leoni are reuniting on screen, this time portraying a newlywed couple in NBC’s upcoming comedy pilot Newlyweds. The project marks their first collaboration since meeting on the CBS political drama six years ago and follows a later in life romance that’s equal parts charming and unpredictable.
Daly steps into the shoes of Tony, a buttoned-down college professor who, fresh out of divorce, has no intention of chasing sparks until he literally bumps into Jeanie (Leoni) at a valet stand. Described as “so taken with [Jeanie’s] beauty and spirit that they wind up having dinner together anyway,” Tony quickly learns that love doesn’t always come politely and sometimes demands you rethink everything.
Produced by a powerhouse creative team that includes Jamie Lee Curtis and penned by Gail Lerner, Newlyweds leans into heartfelt comedy with seasoned talent behind and in front of the camera. Pam Fryman, known for her work on sitcom hits, will direct the pilot.
For Daly and Leoni who married in July 2025 after more than a decade together following their Madam Secretary romance, the story feels eerily fitting. “We’re hoping audiences feel this is lived-in, real, and full of surprises,” a network executive said, capturing the spirit of the series without giving too much away.
If picked up for the 2026–27 season, Newlyweds could become one of television’s most charming love stories — on screen and off.
